New Chief for D&G Council.
Our new Chief Executive, Dawn Roberts, started with us on 11th July.
Dawn has said a few words about looking forward to working with our region’s communities in the years to come:
“Being appointed Chief Executive of Dumfries and Galloway Council is a huge honour. This is an extremely important job, which will be full of challenges and opportunities, and I am delighted to have started in the role this week.
My initial focus will be on supporting the new Council, investing in relationships, and beginning to understand the opportunities that the next five years present for the region.
Dumfries and Galloway is a place like no other and, working with Elected Members, staff and communities, I plan to focus on enhancing the lives of those living across our many communities. What distinguishes Dumfries and Galloway is the quality of life it can offer, the environment, the communities and the organisations that base themselves here. But most of all it’s the people, and their wellfounded pride in this unique area. Over the next few months I will be visiting communities across the region and I look forward to learning about the opportunities and challenges our communities are facing.
Understanding how, with Council and citizens working together, we can build on what has gone before, creating the conditions for success to enable the priorities of the Council to be achieved and the delivery of value-for-money services for the people who live in, work in and visit this wonderful region. I am thrilled to be here and am really looking forward to the weeks and months ahead.”
Summer Camps are Back!
Our Council’s Youth Work Service has announced the return of the Amazing Summer Camps for 2022!
Last year, scores of teenagers from across Dumfries and Galloway took part in the action-packed camps held near Beattock. With funding received from the Summer of Play initiative, the camps are making a comeback and are set to be as popular as ever!
The camp activities are organised by young people, and a member of the co-design team said “we are really excited to be able to work on the amazing summer camps again this year, we have lots of fun activities planned and everyone who signs up will receive their own camp goody bag that includes a t-shirt, hoody, water bottle and lots of other wee surprises”
Alongside the amazing summer camps, the Youth Work Team will be out and about in communities across the region, providing Youth Cafes in local youth centres, town halls and parks. The Youth Cafes will offer free food and activities for young people aged 11 to 25 years, including sports, arts and crafts, music, games and much more.
The Youth Enquiry Service team will be available throughout the summer, providing support and advice to young people through the Blether Live Chat, more information can be found on their website – youthenquiryservice.org.
Youth People can also drop into the Youth Enquiry Service building at DG One in Dumfries, between 12noon and 4pm, Monday to Friday for free food, company and activities.
Also this Summer, the ‘Youth Work Roadshows’ will make a return, offering free activities for families and young people in local parks and town centres. Keep your eyes peeled for the roadshow dates coming to a town or village near you.
