While the rate of increase in Covid cases in Scotland appears to be slowing down, we must be aware that the number of cases is still rising and continue do all that we can to prevent its spread.
An increase of more than 70% in the average new daily cases was recorded in the week to 29 August.
Figures for the week to 5 September increased by only 9%. So, the number of cases is still increasing week on week and is currently at its highest level since the start of the pandemic.
There is already severe pressure on the NHS in Scotland.
The number of people in hospital with coronavirus rose by almost 50% in the 7 days to last Friday. Sadly, if we don’t see a decrease in the number of new Covid cases, more people will become seriously ill and more people will die.
So, it’s absolutely vital that we continue to comply with current restrictions, get vaccinated, take a lateral flow test at least twice a week, and take all appropriate precautions for our own well being and for that of others.
