Kirkcowan – What's Going On?

Easter Blessings from Kirkcowan Church

Spring has arrived with longer, lighter days. The spring flowers are blooming, lambing season is upon us and the Easter holidays have begun.

Why is Easter such an important time in the Christian Calendar? Yes, we remember Jesus’ death on a cross, on a Friday we call good. He died to save us from ourselves, and don’t we, as human beings, need saving. But then, Easter Sunday reminds us of Jesus’ resurrection, and that death is not the end. There is hope in this life and beyond. Especially at Easter, it is a time to give thanks for all our blessings.

But sometimes we don’t feel blessed and we find it difficult to be thankful. Life is not always easy and it is hard to give thanks when things are tough. But I believe it is especially in the dark and difficult times we need to remind ourselves to count our blessings.

An old children’s chorus comes to mind. ‘Count your blessings, name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord has done.’

I wonder what you are thankful for? I wonder who you are thankful for? How about, this Easter, you take the opportunity to thank someone personally for being who they are and how they have been a blessing to you?

We must never forget the blessings that God has lavished upon us in his Son, Jesus Christ. The Church tries to share Christ’s blessing and love in everything it does. Join with us. You will always be welcome at our Sunday Services at 10 am in Kirkcowan Parish Church, or at Special Events and Services throughout the year.

May God richly bless you and yours this Easter.
