Did you know? – Kirkcowan Village Hall could be purchased for £1
You might have £1, but would you be prepared to be responsible for the running and upkeep of the hall as a community facility? There are a small number of people in Kirkcowan who are prepared to do this, but they can only do it with your support. If we as a community don’t do something to maintain the hall as a facility for all, the council will have little option but to close it.
THE GOOD NEWS!
If the hall continues to be used by those who go to a group e.g. The youth club OR
If a new group wishes to use the hall OR If you hold an event or party OR If you help to raise funds and encourage others to support the running of the hall
THEN
It will be possible to engage with the council and take on a short-term (1-2 years) management agreement.
This would mean the council remains responsible for keeping the hall wind and water-tight and for some safety checks. If this were to be successful, the community could purchase the hall outright over a further 3-5 years.
The other options:
- A long term lease agreement (25 years) – the council responsible only for keeping the hall wind and water-tight.
- An asset transfer – the hall is purchased outright for £1.
- Closure – which will be decided by 31st March 2018.
The group of people who have been meeting with council spokesperson Karen Brownlie thought it best to give out this information to all residents of Kirkcowan together with a short questionnaire.
If you would like to find out more, all the information is available on www.kirkcowan.com. You can also ask members of the Working Group for more information. The Post Office will hold a set of all the documents and paper work generated by the discussion for everyone to access.
To help progress the future plans for the hall, please fill in the Questionaire and return to the box in the Post Office or to any member of the working group as soon as you can.
Thank you in advance for your support.
