Dear KCDT Member
We are getting in touch to remind you about the KCDT AGM taking place on Monday 20th January at 7pm in the village hall and to share information about who is standing for election. There are two vacancies on the Board and two candidates so this is an uncontested election which means voting will be for one candidate per available vacancy and simple majority elects the candidate. You can find out more about Bill and Vivienne who are standing for election below.
Thank you to those of you who have already sent apologies and Proxy Voting Forms. If you cannot attend, but would like to vote, don’t forget to use your Proxy Form which was supplied with the original Notice of AGM. As indicated in the original Notice, proxies need to be appointed by Friday 17th January. You can email your Proxy Form direct to me at this email address and I will confirm receipt.
If you have joined membership since the original Notice went out, you can access the whole AGM information pack, including the Proxy Form on the KCDT website here: KCDT AGM – Monday 20th January 2025 – Kirkcowan Community Development Trust
Please phone me on 0131 5240338 if you have any questions or concerns.
Best wishes,
Rosie Dobson

Candidates standing for election – statement of interest in the role
Vivienne Bradley
I have lived in the village for two and a half years. I am originally from Kirkcudbright, although my family are from Wigtownshire and this felt like moving home. I’ve taught at the Douglas Ewart High School for 8 years, and moved here because I wanted to become more involved with the community where I worked. I taught Outdoor Education at Stronord, near Palnure prior to this and love our wild countryside.
I have always had an interest in helping make my community better wherever I’ve lived, and was involved in the Gatehouse Development Initiative in its infancy, and I’ve been with the Kirkcudbright Development Trust. I have an interest in bush craft and survival and I am an administrator for the Scottish Bush Craft Group, helping to run events and admin on their Facebook page.
I’d like to get involved with the Trust because I see the great things they are achieving. I would love to be part of an organisation that works for the good of the people in our community. I would like to be involved in helping shape a more positive future for both people and planet. What difference would I like to see the Trust making in the community? I would like to see more opportunities for young and old, opportunities to bring them together, to learn from each other and to support each other. I would like to see more use of outdoor areas for sport, for art, and for health. I believe the Trust are in an ideal position to help develop either facilities, clubs, or systems that would allow the bringing of people together in these areas.
Bill Harkness
Bill joined the Trust in 2019 and became a director in 2020. He was born and raised in Glasgow and settled in Kirkcowan in 2009 after a career in the UK Civil Service, living and working throughout the UK and in the Americas and Africa. Bill’s main aim is to ensure that community benefit monies bring meaningful, lasting improvement for the whole community in both the long and short term. His hobbies include reading, DIY, travel and (trying!) golf.
Ends.
