Kirkcowan – What's Going On?

Kirkcowan Church Allotment Club

Kirkcowan Church have started an allotment club. We have constructed 5 raised beds with a mixture of flowers and veg, shared with the WRI and the Youth Club. This is at the side of the church, behind the war memorial. Obviously, because of the proximity to the war memorial, we want to be respectful of the local men who laid down their lives so that we might enjoy the freedom to live our lives to the full. I’m sure many people are aware of the health benefits of allotments in providing gentle exercise, the opportunity to meet new friends and a place to enjoy a sunny day, should the weather ever improve! The produce is growing well and we hope to use some of it to make soup for a harvest lunch later in the year. There are lettuces, peas and strawberries ready for picking but people are reluctant to simply come along and help themselves so we thought it would be good to meet on Thursday afternoons between 2-3pm from Thursday 16/7/15 until the end of August and perhaps beyond that, depending on the level of interest. This would be a great chance to pick whatever is ready, discuss gardening tips, life, the universe and anything else you are interested in.
The church will be open and the kettle will be on. We welcome all ages and non-church -members would be very welcome.
