The inaugural Kirkcowan Open Show was held on the 9th and 10th of September in Kirkcowan Village Hall. By anyone’s measure, it was an enormous success, with over 650 entries in 97 classes, ranging from Fruit & Vegetables to Needlecraft. Eleven large and 10 small trophies were awarded on the Saturday afternoon by Dumfries & Galloway Volunteer of the Year, Helen Marsh. The Village Hall was the obvious venue, with the community celebrating the official takeover of the Hall from Dumfries & Galloway council on the previous Monday.
Teas, coffees and home-baking were provided using the new facilities provided by the Kirkcowan Community Development Trust Glenchamber Fund. There was a great buzz around the event, with a generously supported raffle and a hilarious auction of left-behind produce and flowers which raised over £200 in its own right.
Overall the weekend raised £850 after expenses; a fantastic achievement which will be put towards keeping the Village Hall running for the benefit of the whole community.
Thanks to the Open Show Committee for all their hard work, thank you to all who entered, judged, visited, donated and supported, and roll on next year!
