A major refurbishment took place at school during the Summer holidays. This included improvements to pupil and staff toilets, cloakroom areas and the dining hall. It also included the creation of nursery toilet and changing facilities, disabled toilet facilities, a headteacher’s study and new general office/reception and staffroom. Staff and children are delighted with the improvements, however this has left classrooms looking tired and in need of upgrading. A programme of decoration and upgrading has begun but is proving costly.
New kitchen units and sockets were also installed in the nursery, greatly improving catering facilities and storage, and enabling staff to provide a wider range of snacks for the children. Howdens, Stranraer, provided units at a greatly reduced cost.
Thanks to the support of local business a new carpet was laid in the nursery during the October break. The carpet costs £800 (a significantly discounted price) and non-slip safety surfacing costs around £400.
Sponsorship from local businesses has already raised £645 towards the cost. The school would like to thank the following businesses for their generosity: Holyhead Properties, Martin Blair Joiners, George McShane Painter and Decorator, Derskelpin Farm, Newton Stewart Auction Mart, Montpelier Accountants, Creebridge Veterinary Practice and the Bodle family.
Sponsoring a square metre of carpet costs £20.
If you would like further information please contact the school. The school hopes to hold an Open Day once all works are completed. Details will be issued in due course.
