4)  Annual Report from the Chair, 2023-2024:
Having served another year as chair, it certainly has been another quick one.
As reported last year, the sub-group formed initially for the Platinum Jubilee event held another successful ‘fun in the park’ event followed by a dance in the hall with local band Kippy. The event has now been transferred over to being organised by Kirkcowan Gala Group and I wish them all the best and success in continuing this much enjoyed community event.
In October KCC held another successful pumpkin trail and Halloween Party, with games & fancy dress. Thank you to the volunteers from KCC and helpers from the school PTA for their support with this event.
Christmas Lights switch on took place on the first weekend of December, thank you to the church choir who attended and lead the way with the carol singing. Thanks to Lynne for again organising the food, but most of all thank you to the people of the community who donate food and attend on the night.
Again, in relation to Christmas, KCC are able to fulfil the tradition of providing all primary school children and under a selection box, thanks to the discretionary grants we receive from DGC.
As normal, winter is quieter but work for the CC still continues. This winter saw work finally start on the corner garden at Church Street. Thank you to Andrew for his continued work on the footpath network. Thanks also to the planter group for keeping Kirkcowan blooming and colourful.
Finally, thank you to Mary for her secretarial duties, Hazel for her financial duties but also to each and every one of the community councillors for the work and time they give in any way over the year.
